Real Fires

Real fires have been with us since the cave man days , but with evolution comes more efficient fires! We have listed all the main types of fires below. Most properties with a class one chimney can have a real subject to HETAS recommendations& building regulations.Hetas is the official body recognised by government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services. So you can rest assured that you will get the right applaince for your needs & fitted correctly.

Basket Fires

This type of fire are suited to larger fireplace openings. There are various sizes & styles to suit most fireplace & room settings. The baskets give a wonderful effect and will make most room very cozy. But please be aware they are not very efficient and may require added ventilation to comply with current regulations.

ELECTRIC FIRES

INSET FIRES WITH B.S FIREBACKS (Smaller Openings)

As an inset open fire reduces the opening size and has a refractory fire back with formed angles to help radiate heat and are unique to Britain & Ireland . This type of opening means we can offer a huge range of fires, & even some closed stoves, that can fit straight inside.

A standard B.S Fire back for which the following fires will fit into. Comes in either 16" or 18

16" / 18" Guardette

Solid Fuel Kit

to suit B.S fire backs

The Consort Inset 5

A glass fronted inset stove which will highly increase efficiency for more details see the glass  fronted convector section & inset stoves

16" / 18" Chelsea

Solid Fuel Kit

ELECTRIC

*Fireplaces made for real log or coal fires have to be constructed to withstand higher temperatures than for gas or electric. Expansion joints will be necessary in hearths and back panels, agglomerate marbles are generally unsuitable and slabbing is likely to be required.

CAST IRON INSERTS

An alternative method of using a refractory fire back is to use a cast inset with built in cast iron fire backs to radiate more heat. Here is just a sample to see more of the go to the Period & Traditional page.

INSET CONVECTOR UNITS

These clever designs combine all the looks of an open fire but with better efficiencies of approx 50%, which is much better than the basket fires above!

cut through of jetmasterThe efficiency is achieved by the fire's design, a duel heating system which combines confected air, heated through a separate chamber, with a traditional radiant heat to create an exceptional heat out put with the entire ambiance of an open fire. Standing air losses can also be reduced as the Jetmaster fires have a damper mechanism that closes the fire down within 3% of the flue opening when the fire is not in use. This should reduce the amount of cold air being drawn down and warmth being lost up the chimney when not in use.

cut through of rutland

Jetmaster Fires has recently had it's Universal open fire approved by Gastec (a solid fuel test house on HETAS's register) making it the first open fire to achieve a net efficiency of 50%, under this scheme this gives the universal 18” an estimated Carbon Credit of 160kg/yr in a 100m2 house.

We also deal with other leading manufactures of convector fires that of which include Stovax & Rutland Fire Products. They are mainly all inset models ranging from a 16" to fit into an existing fireplace to a mammoth 41"

GLASS FRONTED INSET CONVECTOR UNITS

These fires combine the technology of the inset convectors above with a glass front. This massively improves the appliances efficiency as it restricts the amount of air passing over the fire and being sent up the chimney. The fires are also alot more controllable as you control the amount of air it consumes. Any glass fronted appliance like these with a heat out put of 5kw or less may not need any added ventilation. Even if the appliance is over 5 kw it only requires 5cm2 per kw over 5kw so not  a huge air vent.
